Wednesday, September 17th
Today was a stay at home day, while the Majors went and did more of Madrid. I told the girls that Aunt Jen was on the airplane coming to visit us tomorrow. When I picked up Bryce from school, she was looking for someone – I knew who. When she got to me she asked where was Aunt Jen, I told her it was tomorrow and then she started to cry. Poor kid!!!

Thursday September 18th
Aunt Jen’s flight came in at 7:45, which is about 8:45 after baggage claim and immigration. The earliest bus leaves Boadilla at 6:30. It usually takes about two hours to get from our home to the airport. Do the math – I was going to be cutting it close. I told Jen just as much. But I didn’t have kids and I could run/walk really fast. The greatest thing was that all of the buses, trains, and subways came and I didn’t have to wait – so I beat her.

Aunt Jen wasn’t interested in taking a nap, so I took her on my errands to go buy groceries and get Jocelyn another uniform for school – danza – which is ballet. I also had to buy a birthday present for Jocelyn to give, she was invited to her first birthday party on Saturday!!!!

Aunt Jen went with me to pick up the girls from school. Very exciting. Bryce was hilarious waving and telling all of her friends – “That’s my Aunt Jen!!!”

Then the majors got home and all six of us got ready for a night of Flamenco. We rented a van for Friday’s escapades to Segovia, and the van was to be dropped off at our house at 6, so we decided we would drive the van to the train station, then we wouldn’t have to wait for the stupid buses. Great idea – but by 8, the van still hadn’t been delivered. So we have to bus it all dressed up. That means that we didn’t get to go to our fancy dinner place before. We did make it to the Flamenco place and they were still serving dinner. So we begged them to feed us. We told them we would eat really fast!!!

Flamenco. It was very exciting. It was funny to watch the Majors watch the performers and their passion. At one point Kelly laughed out loud and we all joined in. The best part was at the end when the male performer invited some people to dance with them. One of these people was his very pregnant wife. She was the only one that got a standing ovation, well deserved and we thought she was going to break her water any moment.

We made sure to leave right at 12, so we wouldn’t be left without a subway that stops at 1:30, or a train that stops at 2, and then we would messenger Brent via black berry to black berry to pick us up at the train station in the rented van (we did receive a message that it was there). Everything is correct in theory. Well our messenger fell asleep and didn’t hear the beeps. We got to the bus stop and waited. Well, no van, so we figured the night bus would come. No bus. I didn’t write down the taxi number to call – stupid. So we decided to take the train back to the stop where the taxis were – except the train was out of service for the night. So we debated walking the five miles in fancy shoes through the construction zone. We did hear people having a great time and meandered that way. They were a bunch of drunk people calling for a taxi – so I yelled for them to order a taxi for us as well – We were saved – again great perspective in theory. Well, one taxi came to pick up the drunks, then another taxi came to pick up the drunks, and we verified with the taxi that another one would be here to pick us up – yes – again in theory. By now we are passed exhausted, cold and a tad bit pissed off. Aunt Jen and I decide that we are going to walk home and get the van. The Majors decide they are going to sleep in the restaurant chairs until the busses start in a few hours. All the while we are being entertained with the skill of the worker who is taking down the town banners. He has a white commercial truck – maybe he could give us a ride!!! Theory!!!! So we all gang up on this poor guy in the van to ask for a ride. The helpers tell us yes, but the van driver is saying no and is looking very scared of 6 women. Well they open up the back door and it is all full of these dirty banners. The Majors say no, Aunt Jen and I hop into the car. Nicole is FREAKING OUT!!!!! The driver isn’t too comfortable with the whole situation either.

As the story unfolds – As we are driving away, Nicole is writing down the license plate, I can see it in the rearview mirror. While they are waiting, a police officer finally stops – he has been circling us the whole time. Nicole flags him down because she is scared, and tries to ask if these worker guys are okay – or is that the last time she has seen her sisters. Dawn and Kelly are checking the HOT police officers and almost wishing that something happens to us, so that they can spend more time with them.

The driver proceeds to follow my directions and drive us very speedy to our house – I had him stop at the block. He was so nervous. He kept telling us that he was married and had a baby and was from El Salvador. He talked the whole time because he was afraid we were going to do something to him!!! We got the van and drove like hell to get the Majors. When we pulled up we saw 2 police cars, a taxi, the night bus, the white worker van, and about 10 people standing in the median. Now mind you it is 4 in the morning and we haven’t seen a GD soul in over 2 hours. Nicole sees us and comes over to tell us that with all of the trouble they have been through, they are going to take the taxi home. They did – with a 2 car police escort. The police seemed to think that our Majors were just as cute.

We drive away in our 9 passenger Mercedes van, wave goodbye to our driver and head home. The police are at the home checking on all of our safety – sorry Chelsea but the actual police are much cuter than the Boadilla Guardia. As we were laughing and celebrating another memorable moment in travel, Nicole and Jen (there are two Jens and two Kellys in the house) tell us how the worker truck came back in record time and that when he opened up his van, they checked to make sure that Aunt Jen and I weren’t hog tied in the back – or that there wasn’t any blood. So needless to say, we didn’t get to bed until 5 – 6, so the early start to Segovia in the morning was so NOT going to happen.
